Collaborating with Pijak Bumi, Le Minerale Continues to Implement Commitment to National Circular Economy Movement
Since launching the National Circular Economy Movement in 2021, Le Minerale has continued to carry out its commitment to driving recycling efforts, as part of efforts to reduce national waste generation. This time, Le Minerale collaborated with one of the local and environmentally friendly shoe brands, Pijakbumi, to introduce and educate the public about the potential for transforming the remaining consumption of PET bottles into new items that are fashionable but still carry sustainable value. This educational campaign was exhibited at Brightspot Market 2023 which will return to Plaza Senayan, Jakarta on 28 September – 1 October and 6 – 8 October 2023.
This collaboration between Le Minerale and Pijakbumi is a form of alignment of vision to respond to environmental problems in Indonesia. This is also in line with the campaign #JadiBaruLagi which is being promoted by Le Minerale as an educational effort for the community, including young people, to also be able to play an active role in reducing national waste, starting from small steps in sorting waste from the house, so that plastic waste, especially PET can be processed creatively and become new items again. It doesn't stop there, the Le Minerale #JadiBaruLagi Campaign also aims to ensure that the circular economy continues.
“Waste management is a shared responsibility. Le Minerale as a manufacturer of bottled drinking water is fully aware of its obligation to manage any waste produced. We have tried to fulfill this obligation by improving the capacity of plastic waste collection and management facilities, as well as educating the public about the importance of sorting waste for recycling. At the same time, we see an opportunity to further process the recycled plastic into new goods with no less good functional and selling value. "For this reason, we actively collaborate with the right partners, such as Pijakbumi, to produce creative, functional and environmentally friendly works as a form of upcycling business, which of course strengthens our role in the overall waste management cycle to contribute to the circular economy," said Irene Atmadja, Sustainability Manager of Le Minerale.
“From its inception, Pijakbumi has focused on how we can produce shoes with environmentally friendly materials. Not only that, we also have a campaign, namely #SmallStepsMatter, where we voice the importance of making small decisions that are ethical and prioritize the environment in every step we take. From this spirit, we continued walking until we met partners who had the same spirit, one of which was Le Minerale. This collaboration is only the beginning of the partnership that we will carry out in the future, which will certainly increasingly show that the use of recycled and environmentally friendly materials in everyday fashion can create new products that are equally functional and aesthetic ," said Rowland Asfales as Founder and CEO of Pijakbumi.
In this collaboration, Pijakbumi x Le Minerale presented an activation booth with a variety of interesting activities, such as creating shoes using recycled PET materials and collaborative art Kevinswork illustrations with Brightspot visitors. Every visitor can stop by the booth and take part in the workshop and see the work of illustrator Kevinswork who will present his work for the Le Minerale and Pijakbumi collaboration. In the future, Le Minerale and Pijakbumi plan to launch shoe products made from recycled PET (Recyled PET / R-PET) which are also equipped with attractive illustrations from Kevinswork.
Prior to Pijakbumi, Le Minerale also collaborated with a number of local brands to realize more environmentally friendly company business practices, such as with Cosmonauts and Aerostreet to use R-PET in their fashion products as a form of sustainability action. "This collaboration with Pijakbumi is our third collaboration with brands that have a high passion for providing education to the public, especially young people, about the application of sustainability values in everyday life. In the future, Le Minerale collaborations will certainly not only be limited to fashion brands. We are open to collaborating with other categories. All of these efforts are nothing more than to show and educate the public that PET plastic waste is valuable waste and has high value in the recycling industry. "In this way, we hope that people will be wise in managing their PET plastic waste," said Irene.
Apart from brand collaborations, to make the National Circular Economy Movement (GESN) a success, Le Minerale has also collaborated with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the Indonesian Plastic Recycling Association (ADUPI), and various other partners who focus on collection and management. rubbish.
"We are very pleased to report that thanks to the collaboration with many parties, during 2022, the increase or growth collection achieved by GESN was 101% compared to 2021. Meanwhile, until 2023, GESN managed to achieve at least 859 tons collection every month. We target that the results of the collection will continue to increase every year for further processing. At the same time, we will continue to strive to bring more brands into the fold
